Fixed: After several charge cycles, battery life was normal. I may have been confusing timeout and no connection icon with dead battery. However, the replacement gasket/seal did not hold up. Waiting on some b-7000 adhesive to re-seal the face to the body. Also, watch confirmed as series 1, not original version,

My watch says it is a Series 1, but there is no model number on the case. The battery swelled up and popped the display out, but it was still working. I replaced the battery, although I had difficulty mating the battery cable to the watch. After it appeared to have mated properly I put the watch on the charger and it immediately showed 100%. When I pulled it off the charger it died after a minute or two. My phone (14Pro) watch app doesn't recognize that it is connected and tries to pair but can't. I suspect the watch thinks it is paired, but that was done with an earlier version of iOS on the phone and if it updated the watch app in the process it may not recognize the old watch. It must be paired at a lower protocol layer because it knows who I am and what day and time it is, For that reason I am reluctant to reset the watch. I'd like to solve the charging problem without resetting the watch.
I checked the battery I removed and it was a 1579, which is what I ordered.
Ideas?
