The Apple Watch Series 1 is a revamp of the original Apple Watch, announced September 7, 2016. Most of the parts are the same as the Series 2

New Battery Says 100%, but dies in a few minutes

Fixed: After several charge cycles, battery life was normal. I may have been confusing timeout and no connection icon with dead battery. However, the replacement gasket/seal did not hold up. Waiting on some b-7000 adhesive to re-seal the face to the body. Also, watch confirmed as series 1, not original version,

My watch says it is a Series 1, but there is no model number on the case. The battery swelled up and popped the display out, but it was still working. I replaced the battery, although I had difficulty mating the battery cable to the watch. After it appeared to have mated properly I put the watch on the charger and it immediately showed 100%. When I pulled it off the charger it died after a minute or two. My phone (14Pro) watch app doesn't recognize that it is connected and tries to pair but can't. I suspect the watch thinks it is paired, but that was done with an earlier version of iOS on the phone and if it updated the watch app in the process it may not recognize the old watch. It must be paired at a lower protocol layer because it knows who I am and what day and time it is, For that reason I am reluctant to reset the watch. I'd like to solve the charging problem without resetting the watch.

I checked the battery I removed and it was a 1579, which is what I ordered.

You know, Apple do things in very confusing ways.
If it is anything older than a series 4(i think), the new iOS system and the updated watch app would not pair it and say it's too old. It might just try to unpair all of a sudden, or sometimes the app updates and identifies the watch as "too old"for it and attempt to unpair, but leaves the watch paired even though it doesn't show up in the app. this basically leaves the watch like any other sport watch because all you can do on it is check your heart rate and your activity ring. I mean, Apple Watches are for checking messages and doing stuff without your phone, right?

About the battery though. When you have problems connecting the battery cables, you probably should have stopped and see whether anything is wrong with the press connectors or whatever they're called. The batteries draining so fast is probably because of poor connection, which might cause overheating. I would advise you to check the connectors again, since it's best to be sure. The old swollen battery might have tugged on the connectors and caused them to malfunction.

I've got an Original and had to buy an iPhone 5s just to pair it. Very annoying.
