@matt52868 okay that sound s like your CD assembly is possibly having worn gears or a bad gear assembly. If it would just not read it, I would have thought a good laser lens cleaning could resolve that. Your issues may just be a little further in depth. Start with a good cleaning of the CD assembly.

To work on it, use teh service manual as well as the supplement for the SM. I added it to the Documents section on this site [[Topic:Sony CFD-510]] Take a look at it and see if that is something you'd tackle. It's not really complicated but Boom boxes are cumbersome :-)

Just checked for parts and amazingly enough, there are actually still a few of those that are available.
