philiptedman, first thing you want to be aware of is that there was a recall. Check with your dealership on that. It may help you out. BTW it says Seville, but the Deville was also part of this

99085 -- Crankshaft Position Sensor Failures

Certain 2000 Cadillac Eldorado and Seville

General Motors has decided to conduct a Voluntary Emission Campaign involving certain 2000 Cadillac Eldorado and Seville model vehicles equipped with 4.6L (RPO LD8-VIN Code Y or RPO L37-VIN Code 9) engine. The crankshaft position sensors in these vehicles may fail and cause an intermittent engine chuggle, stall or possible long starting crank time and/or a no start condition, as well as illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). These conditions may be caused by a cracked solder joint at a resistor in the sensors.

To correct this condition, dealers are to replace both crankshaft position sensors.

Vehicles Involved

Involved are certain 2000 Cadillac Eldorado and Seville model vehicles equipped with 4.6L (RPO LD8-VIN Code Y or RPO L37-VIN Code 9) and built within the following VIN breakpoints:

2000 Cadillac Eldorado Vin Code YU101752 thru YU177716

2000 Cadillac Seville Vin Code YU102055 thru YU190443

( The Vin Code is the last 8 digits of your vin)..."

For the sensor removal, and there are 2 of them front side of engine above oil filter adapter.

Raise the front of the car by the subframe using the floor jack. Place jack stands under the frame and lower the car onto the stands.

Remove the lower valance cover between the bottom of the radiator and the front bumper using a socket wrench.

Remove the four bolts in the oil filter adapter housing using a wrench. The adapter is suspended, so just push it slightly to the side. The sensor is directly behind it. Remove the 10 mm bolt in the crankshaft sensor using a wrench and pull the sensor out of the block. Hope this helps, good luck.
