What could make the volume button respond like the sleep button?
The volume buttons are responding like the sleep \ power button.
When I push the down volume button it puts the iPod to sleep, I do see the volume icon for a split second before it goes to sleep mode.
When I push the sleep \ power button the iPod wakes up and the volume icon is displayed for a split second.
I did replace the volume \ power assembly but still have the same issue.
Any help troubleshooting this would be appreciated.

I have the exact same problem except with the up volume button. I also replaced the buttons, ribbon cable and switches and it didn't help. I asked my question 6 days ago and no one has responded, so I guess they don't have an answer!!!
