after changing the cpu and HDD the mac mini doesnt work!

i made all the steps for change the cpu from core duo to core 2 duo. I made all the steps correctly, switching and connecting everything again but when i turn on the mini again only the power led works. I tried to insert a cd to test if the dvd reader was working but nothing happened. I can suppose there is a problem in any part who connects the motherboard, but dont know exactly. please help!!!

i connected again the old Cpu, but happens the same. I'll try again with the old HDD , but this doesn`t look well....

Did you use proper ESD protection? You may have zapped the logic board or CPU/s

yeah, i did it before the surgery. Thinking about that, when i took the alu. heat sink it was glued to the cpu by the termal paste. I tried to remove the sink softly but finally when i pulled it , it came with the cpu. So i removed the cpu with socket lock on. At first sight everything was still well , the new cpu was inserted well again on the socket but the damage was done, i think.

BTW, the new cpu is a p8400 2.2 GHz core 2 duo. Looks exactly like the old (t2300 1.6 ghz core duo). will it work? or only T series processor???

Anyway thanks for your time!!!

The one thing the guides don't tell you is how to pull the heat sinks off. Sometimes they come off easily, other times you encounter what you did. What I do is twist it off (shear Vs lift). Think how two pieces of glass can stick together to the point you can't pull them apart but with a twist they can be.

That's an advanced DIY - recheck all the connectors - often users "think" they have reassembled correctly then find out that a connector was not correctly or completely seated, ribbon cable cams right side up and locked.

Of course you used a OEM compatible CPU.

i did it four times!!! i'm sure that is not an assembling problem.

Surfing in the web, everybody with my problem seemed to have the problem with the logic board.

THX!!!

Since I've not done this myself, but "everyone who has encounters problems" I would suspect that your chosen CPU is not supported by the logic board - the box that processor is used on has a faster bus, graphics & more RAM than your old box.

Sounds like you may have damaged the logic board (socket) if neither one will work now.

Did you review the Intel web site online spec sheets? First locating your systems CPU and then looking up what was available within the same family of chips.

The few times I've replaced the CPU is exact match on the Mac mini (work systems so I can't goose them up).
