Power supply and or Logic board

Power supply has blown caps, but I was also reading that if only the first led lights and nothing further than that that the logic board is smoked.

Btw my G5 will not start or do anything short of lighting 1 led.

Guy, • LED 1 indicates that the trickle voltage from the power supply has been detected by the main logic board. This LED will remain ON whenever the iMac G5 is connected to a working AC power source. The LED will remain on even when the computer has been shut down or put to sleep. The LED will turn off only if the AC power source is disconnected or the power supply is faulty."

Check the answer on here suspected faulty power supply on iMac intel 17". How do I diagnose? and if nothing else, take a look at the power supply for obviously damaged caps.

Old Turkey thanks for the info. so far - the caps on my power supply are popped and or bulging. The supply looks as though it was replaced once already. What I need to know is: on an Apple forum they say if there is only one led the logic board is gone too. I know my power supply is a goner just don't want to put the money into it and then find out the logic board is dead too. I know this is a gamble and it seems to be in my favor- I guess I was just hoping someone had this same issue before and it was only the power supply.

Thanks for accepting my answer. I definitely start with the power supply.

First - Did you ever get the power supply replaced under warranty? Extended warranty, granted its on the late side if you hadn't.

Otherwise, it does sound like you need a new power supply here. You can find them for about $85 US. Very easy to swap out Vs trying to fix it.

Just came into possession of this machine - I have read about the power supply warranty which has expired on these machines. What I'm trying to find out is if the logic board is junk as well. No sense in replacing the p/s and then having to do the logic board too. The thing is if it is only the power supply it is cheap to me to fix - if it is more extensive I will send the machine to it grave due to the costs.
