only shows apple logo

hi, i have an ipod classic 120gb i was listening to it the otyher day when the battery died didnt think anything of it and put it on the docking station to charge. when i took it off the docking station it was really warm and it stayed with the battery charging logo on the screen but not showing as charging, this has happened before so i just reset it by pressing menu and the action button. when it reset itself it just showed the apple logo with the back light lit! i reset it again but this time it reset and just showed the apple logo with a dull screen. i have connected it to the computer but nothing happens even when i put it into disk mode! please help!

david finlay, first make sure that your dock connector is clean, use some isopropyl alcohol and a few puffs of compressed air to clean it out. Try to place your iPod into diagnostics mode. Check this site for instructions and what the results mean. I do think it may just hang up on the hard drive test. If it does, I would consider replacing the battery first, follow this guide. If a new battery should not resolve the issue, get a USB-to-Zif connector adapter and check your harddrive. There is a good possibility that it has failed and that your iPod can not access its firmware. Hope this helps, good luck.
