MacBook Pro randomly shut downs

I have a 15" MacBook Pro a1150 that I am having some problems with, it shuts down randomly. I don't know what it could be, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I don't think that it's overheating, I installed a fan application and it seems to run between 130-150 degrees F.

I took the battery out and have not seemed to have a problem with it since.

mayer - I downloaded the application and the it says the battery is at 76% of original capacity and has about 285 cycles on it. It seems to just happen as long as the battery is in the computer, if it is running solely on battery it does it, if the battery is in and it is hooked up to the charger it does it, however if the battery is out and it is hooked to the charger it seems to run fine. I restarted it with the battery and it started fine, then I took the battery out and it restarted just fine too.

I've had the same problem for some time. Recently it got so bad that it would shut off immediately after starting up. I did some research and found that replacing the heatsink usually fixes the issue. I just replaced the heatsink and it works! No more shutting off. Oh, there is one problem though. After I finished the heatsink installation, when I started up the computer, there was a puff of smoke and now the display backlight won't turn on! But at least the computer doesn't shut off constantly. Any ideas on what happened to my display?

Anyway, look into the heatsink issue.

I have had the same problem with the same model MacBook Pro except i had the 17". I delt with the problem for about 2 months when my battery finally died and when i took it to the apple store they replaced it under warranty. The weird part was that the inside of the battery had expanded and was bulging out. The people at the store told me that the batteries for this model when they first came out had a defect in them and when they expand they can damage your computer. Thankfully mine expanded outward instead of inward towards my computer saving my hard drive. Anyway i suggest you replace your battery before it gets too bad.

Download Coconut battery and check the original for problems. http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutba...

Does this happen when running just on battery power or battery and AC? What happens when you try to restart with and with out the battery?

Your battery has a lot of cycles on it. If it were me, I would replace the battery with one that carries a full year warranty. Keep the old one for a back-up.

You have what is called the "Random Shutdown Syndrom"

I had the exact same problem with the exact same model of computer. I would be working, and suddenly, it would randomly shut down. It wouldn't matter if it was cold, hot, warm or whatever, I would be working and it would die. I took it into apple 4 times before the fixed it. It was very close to being a lemon.

From what I recall, they had to replace some internal heat sink, then ultimately, the logic board. After they did that, I never saw that problem again.

What I read, what happens is that the heat sink or logic board come in contact with some heat sensor that kills the computer.
