Liquid spill power key not functioning, top case replacement needed?

A family member of mine spilled liquid on my MBP in the area of the power button on the key board. I did the standard let it dry out for a day or two before turning it on. When i did it would stay on and run like normal for an hour or so before the prompt asking if i want to shut the computer off would pop up. I would click no and it would would run like normal before prompting me again about 30 to 45 min later. I ran the full Apple diagnostic test (ADT) and it reported no problems and said the logic board was completely fine. I let it dry out some more and the problem persisted however the prompt came up sooner and sooner until the computer no longer came on. The area of the spill was on and around the power button key, do i have a shorted power button key that now no longer works? when the computer is plugged it seems to still be charging so it doesnt seem like a power source issue.

Sounds like you've figured out the problem… you'll have to buy a top case OR see if you can get a button only from some place (probably eBay).

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.
