Using Mini displayport to hdmi on my iMac and MB retina?

I have a iMac 27" 2011 model

Can i use mini display port to hdmi convertor so i can get my screen from my Macbook Pro Retina 15" on my iMac ?

Like this Scheme:

iMac - Displayport - HDMI cable plugged in to convertor - Other side of HDMI plugged directly to the Macbook Pro Retina HDMI port..

i know the size of HDMI is max FULL hd 1920x1080 but is this possible ?

i will buy a thunderbolt to thunderbolt cable later but i have this mini displayport to HDMI cable which i want to use right now if this is possible..

Sorry no, not possible with any of your configurations.

The issue here is the expectation the Mini display port and the ThunderBolt port (in display mode) output connectors can also act as an input directly into the displays logic of the other system, which it can't.

What you can do is via your WiFi or Ethernet network connection between the two systems then use software which can allow you to take over the other system we call this: Remote Administration Tool (RAT) in doing so you can see the display and control the remote system.
