The lock mechanism for the keyboard ribbon broke. What do I do?
Is this stupid little plastic piece going to cost me a whole logic board? How do you reconnect these ribbons anyways?

You missed/skipped this direction and note. If you can find a computer/electronics repair shop they might be able to replace the connector. Apple could replace the connector.
A workaround might be to use a Bluetooth or USB keyboard/mouse.

The power button is part of the keyboard. If the connector is broken, then the computer cannot be turned on to use Bluetooth or usb device.
