I found an original Game Boy that i haven't play in a long time. I have added new batteries and turned it on but nothing, not even the red light will turn on. I haven't opened the console yet to check what may be wrong. I do not want this console to go to waste. What should I do?

ross, the very first thing you want to do is to clean the battery contacts. Make sure they have not corroded to badly. If those are okay, you will have to disassemble your GB and take a look at the components. You could try and clean it with some isopropyl alcohol and carefully check to see if there is anything obviously corroded etc. But until you have it apart, anything will only be a guess. @oldturkey03 what do you do if it is corroded badly? I have come across an old DMG-01 which one pair of contacts is badly corroded. Thanks in advance.
@richielegend depends on the damage etc. We would have to see that. Cleaning the board and possibly repairing damaged traces might be a fix. Big depends on what this all looks like
The contacts are on a separate piece. Two contacts for two batteries. But what the contacts are on is a small plate. That's has corrosion, but I only have to try to clean contacts itself. Not sure if I can take the two contacts out. It snaps into place

One thing I always do is use the DMG Game Boy DC adapter and see if it turns on that way, if it does then you will need to clean the battery contacts, if it does not power on with the DC adapter then the Game Boy is pretty much beyond repair, I hope this was helpful.

Well I don't have the adapter
Try picking off the corrosion first, check the board to see where the corrosion spread
