Smoke coming out of my PS3

hi,

Today there was high voltage in my house while i was playing Ps3. Within seconds i heard a fuse like sound and smoke started coming out of my television and then from my ps3. I can send my tv for repair but not my ps3. So, i want to know exactly what happened to my ps3. After few hours i tried switching on both my television and my ps3 just to see it it works. Luckily its working but what was that smoke and that burning wire smell coming out of my ps3? I haven't played my ps3 since.

I have this problem to. When I plug the ps3 at tranformer because the electricity of the Philippines is 220 so I have transformer so I plug the ps3 at 110 when I open ps3 and tv it starts smoking at the back of the ps3 I'm nervous

@callofduty65592 your PS3 uses a "universal" power supply. You do not need to use a transformer. All you will need is to get a power cord that fits the PS3 and your electrical outlet. PlayStation 3 Super Slim Teardown

The smoke may not have anything to do with the PSU. It may be from the use of the transformer or something else is going on with your PS3. It may just be time to open it up and check for anything unusual.

sid, unless you take it apart and take a look at it, any answer will be hypothetical only. I strongly suggest to not turn it on, disassemble it by using the teardown from here PlayStation 3 Super Slim Teardown as an idea how to do that. Then take a look at all the components, especially in the PSU and see what you can find. I suggest bad caps....

Thank you so much for you reply oldturkey03, I will tear it down once my tools arrive. May i ask you as what do you mean by bad caps cause i feel you are right. My tv that suffered the same was repaired for only $6. It looked like a capsule but big in size. He mentioned some kind of voltage condensor(I'm not sure). So will i be able to replace those bad caps myself ( i could ask the tv repair guy to do it for me)and where can i buy it from? Since sony will not even replace my ps3 as its out off warranty and I don't have the bill and in my area there are no local ps3 repair shops internet in my saviour.
