Hi,
when closed, the screen of my rMPB is slightly misaligned / shifted to the right. If you look at the distances between hinge and case on the left and right side, it touches the case on the right side while on the left there remains a small gap.
Is it possible to realign this myself and if so, how complex is it? Looking at the teadown, I'm not quite sure which steps can be omitted in this case.

I don't think there's an alignment with the clutches (aka Apple for hinges). If you dropped it you may have torn/broken something on the frame inside.

This is an Apple-certified, refurbished device a few days old. If it was dropped, it must have happened before it was deliviered to me. Anyway, there's information on the web that the screen can indeed be aligned. A technician in a local store also said that this is possible.
Then I'd have them do it… you have a one year warranty - if you open that box the warranty is void. You want a record of this for future problems. Also I bought the 3yr Apple care.
I got a replacement from Apple (called yesterday, arrived today..) Unfortunately, it has a similar problem. The lid is shifted to the back, the right side slightly more than the left. You can see the base sticking out at the front. Again, I contacted Apple, they told me they look into it.
I don't know if I'm too picky, but for this price, I expect a properly aligned screen.
So far Apple's support was very accomodating, but this is rather unsatisfying nonetheless.
They warranty the used as being Apple Certified. Good as new.
We test and certify all Apple refurbished products and include a 1-year warranty. Have you looked at any new machines… are they all like that? If not take a picture and include it for reference when you ship this one back.
The other thing to remember - you are spending less, and getting a refurb'd product. I guess you invest more time, but, less money.
