iPhone only works when connected to charger (water damage)

I often repair iphones for friends, but this one is hard to figure out: the phone has been under water and won't turn on any more. I opened the iphone and let it dry, but it still won't turn on unless i connect it to the charger. As soon as I disconnect the charger, the phone goes dead again. Which part do I have to replace? I see that there is some form oxidation on the battery terminals on the mobo, so I assume that the battery got shorted. Do I need to replace the battery, or do I have to replace more parts?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Anton, the very first thing that you want to do is to disassemble your phone, use these guides, and clean everything with a high grade isopropyl alcohol, do not forget the connectors. Use a soft brush to clean it with as well. Check for any missing, burned, or otherwise damaged components. Carefully check every part for corrosion. Do not forget the connectors on the board and the cables as well. Once cleaned, replace the battery. This is not an option but a must. Remember that the batteries are smart batteries. They do a lot more than just store energy:-) Re-assemble your phone and re-evaluate for further, if any damage. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks! I cleaned everything with a toot brush and alcohol, replaced the battery and it works! The only thing broken is the wifi and bluetooth chip. I tried to reset it using the heat up/cool down method, but it didn't work. I don't have the equipment to replace the chip on the motherboard, so I'll leave it like this. It doesn't bother my friend a lot, so no problem
