MBP Water Spill - was still working, but will not charge..

My partner's early 2013 Macbook Pro 13" had a bad water spill. After drying the computer, the Macbook would turn on and run from the battery completely fine.

However with the power supply connected the battery percentage would not increase and would not drop even though the computer was on and being used. The Magsafe adaptor would show no light.

We tried resetting the SMC as per online instructions, but this did not change anything.

And the power supply has been tested and works fine on other macs.

Eventually after nearly 2 months of use and being connected to the power supply (though occasionally disconnected for transport etc.) the battery finally went flat from the initial 25% at the time of the accident and plugging it in.

Now the computer will not turn on, and will only show the 'battery low - connect now' graphic on the black screen.

We took the Mac to a well regarded Mac specialist who advised that only a new motherboard for $900+ could repair it. However we just need this computer to be running, even just for desktop use if possible.

I tried disconnecting the battery and running the Mac directly from the power supply only, but the computer would not turn on.

How do I run the computer from the power supply only? Is there a simple work around to recharge the battery directly? Or somehow bypass the circuit that is faulty? An external mbp battery charger? I've looked on eBay for something like this but can't find one. My next best option currently is to buy a new fully charged battery and never disconnect the power supply, this is not ideal but may last a year or so..

Any advice and work-around would be highly appreciated, thank you.

There are no software fixes for hardware damage. Some Macbooks will not boot if the battery has a low charge obviously yours is one.

Batteries do not come fully charged.

Some circuit or component on the logic board was damaged by the water, or corrosion, or applying current while wet. Only repairing this damage will "fix" you problem... this is not a DIY project for those not experienced in small electronic or logic board repair.

''Your choices are to contact the places on e-bay that repair/rebuild boards or replace the logic board. ''Removing and replacing the logic board is not a place I'd advise a virgin DIY to begin. You must completely dismantle and then reassemble almost the entire machine. It's easy to tear off connectors or other parts. If you feel qualified you might save some money by taking out and replacing the board yourself.

Your first quote was a very fair one... the logic board alone here list $899.00

Bad Motherboard... Water has shorted out a few components.. I am guessing the mosfets are blown out or a ribbon connector is melted.
