Macbook A1181 wont turn on, when i connect charger i hear the startup chime and the grey/black screen comes on but it stays there. I think it could be the battery or maybe the hard drive but im not entirely sure.

Do you have access to a second mac that has a FireWire port? If you do and haver access to the needed Firewire cable (400 to 800) you could try starting up your MacBook in Target mode so it is seen as a hard disk. Follow this Apple TN: How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode. Then connecting it to the other mac you should be able to access the MacBook's HD. Does that work?

I do not have access to another mac at the moment, im hoping its just a battery problem. As soon as i plugged in a charger from a friends macbook, it finally turned on I heard the startup chime and the black screen showed but thats where it stays.
