@bestengineer123 - you need the phone to be rooted. Install Xposed installer (you'll have to google it I think it's no longer in the play store), then install the "disable proximity sensor" module from within Xposed. Once you install it, reboot and your proximity sensor will be ignored (reading always far).

I had solved the proximity sensor problem by pushing the sensor a bit further into the case.. If I recall correctly I stuck a piece of folded up paper to it's back so it is pressed in place when I closed the phone.

Yes. After getting my screen replaced the screen immediately turns off when placing a call (or answering) without letting you turn it back on, until the call ends..

sounds like your issue?

The problem is with the proximity sensor always detecting something "near". you can confirm this by accessing the service menu (pls google it) or using an app to monitor sensors from the play store.

Since I had to get my screen changed professionally (I previously failed to change the screen - it wouldn't stick to the chassis correctly) I'm hesitant to open the phone up again out of fear that I'd end up screwing something up again. I suspect that the proximity sensor must be misaligned in some way and is picking up the case itself in it's visible range.

as a work around, I disabled the proximity sensor by installing Xposed installer from the play store, then installing the "disable proximity sensor" module from within it. I'm assuming you'd need a rooted phone to get this to work. This will however not turn off the screen when you're on a call.

To remedy this, I tried fiddling with tasker to turn off the screen when on a call. This would allow me to turn on the screen via the power button, but proved to be a bit finicky..

I hope this helps!

The issue is often looked over by repair shops or people repairing their own G2. There is a black rubber gasket that goes over the proximity sensor. If this is left off, then your screen will go black and stay black until the phone call is over. The reason I know, is because Ive had this issue before and I realized I left the black rubber gasket in the old frame. Once I transferred it to the new frame, the proximity sensor worked properly.

Hi

Even i had this issue after changing the screen when i went to service centre they told we need to change the Proximity sensor for 2200 Rs to which i was not happy at all..so i asked them to remove the proximity sensor which costed me 200 service charge..after that it was working fine.

1 open the back cover of your phone

2 locate the proxy sensor plug , is on the right from the front camera when the phone is facing down

3 remove the whole sensor and hold it and make sure is upright the plug must face down

4 there are two little sensor on left and right, break the sensor which is on your left with a side cutter make sure you dont destroy the other sensor or the circuit board

5 put everything together an problem solved,no more blank screen,no more screen shut off when unlocking on the dark

Guys is it because of the screen protector ? I use a glass protector on my g2 and the screen goes off when in call.

push down on the top of the phone during a call by the speaker grill. if the screen comes back on the prox sensor is turning on most likley due to the screen being a little unseated, you may have to reinstall it

My husband I realized my rubber aperture stayed in my old screen so after carefully prying it out and putting it in my new screen my calls are fine now. Double check that the little piece of rubber comes along for your ride.
