Not plugged to mac, but persistent green led light

hi,

a friend of mine brought me his old macbook charger ( the one with the T type connector), and it has a strange problem: it keep having the green led on even if it's not connected to the macbook. Plus i've checked the Volts and it gives 16,88v instead of 6.5 (or whatever). What could be the cause? thanks in advance

The voltage is fine. Use a toothpick to push in pins in and see if they are extending correctly. Especially check #3.

Pin 1 0 V

Pin 2 V+ @ 14.5 / 16.5 / 18.5 V DC

Pin 3 Charge control pin

Pin 4 V+ @ 14.5 / 16.5 / 18.5 V DC

Pin 5 0 V

i've tried to push the third pin but nothing, the LED still emits green light while unplugged from the macbook.

Did you test the charger cable (the 2 flat prongs) for a short while disconnected from the wall socket?

i've changed charger (i got a working spare one without connector) and it gives the same problem. Do you think it's due to a bad chip con the connector?
