Second generation of iPhone. Model A1241 / 8 or 16 GB capacity / black or white plastic back. Repair is more straightforward than the first iPhone. requires screwdrivers, prying, and suction tools.

Patch a screen crack instead of replacing?

I just upgraded to an iPhone 4. My old iPhone 3G has a crack in the glass up in the corner, but away from the actual screen. Is there some sort of patch (i.e. a few drops of super glue, etc) I can put on the crack to prevent further breakage or just to eliminate any possibility of a sharp edge?

I actually have used kits before on the windshield of my car, to fix small cracks and chips caused by road debris. You can buy them at places like pep boys, or autozone, and other car parts stores, and they seem to make the damage completelly disapear. I'm not sure how well they would work in a small iPhone screen, but it might be worth a shot if you want to do it yourself.

Thanks, this worked great. The crack is still visible, of course, but it is now simply a cosmetic issue, not a safety/functionality issue.

I haven't tried this but you might be able to take it to a auto windshield repair/replacement shop and see what those boys can do. They can stop cracks from running and fix small chips. So they just might be able to help you. Please let us know if this is successful as I have never heard of anyone doing it before.
