Ipad 3 registering touches and swipes after screen replacement.

Right away, this is different than any other thread I've found.

I was replacing the ipad 3 glass/digitizer. Everything seemed to be working normal, so I laid it in the frame. On final testing there was a slight phantom touch along the bottom. I reset the unit, but it did not resolve. I pulled the glass out of the frame, and it continued. I reseated the digitizer cable, and again it continued. Finally I removed the digitizer to try a different one, and noticed with no digitizer, it still was registering touches and swipes.

Does anyone know what I might have done, and how to fix this? The zif connectors for the cable are undamaged.

Try to answer this accurately, and that's important. You say that it is registering ghost touch along the bottom. How can you be sure it is along the bottom?

One more thing: rotate the iPad to landscape mode. In that mode, does the ghost touch register on the same area of the screen (now left or right of the screen), or does it seem now to have moved to the bottom of the landscape mode? I'll tell you why after you answer this...

The bottom of the screen keeps dragging up on it's own. In portrait mode. In landscape mode I have a harder time tracking exactly where it's touching, but the bottom does not drag up. In portrait mode (upside down) the top is dragging down. I assume this is to determine a hardware error vs a software error, as a software would rotate with the ipad?

This is to determine that it is indeed one of the zif connectors which is damaged. Either the flaps are not closing properly, some prongs are damaged, or the whole connector is broken off the board to some point (less likely) and needs reflowing or in this case replacing.

Did you check the zif connectors for dust or dirt?

I did not. It's not exactly easily accessible to look -- is there a good way to do this?

I would give them a quick blast with compressed air.

Alright, I cleaned out the zif connector three times, using compressed air and then a soft brush. At this point I'm doubting the connector itself could be the problem. I'm going to try a new digitizer next.

It's the connector. Digitizer ghosting on multiple screens, plus ghosting with no screen = connector.

If even one of the gold keys that makeup the connector get bent this can happen

Replace connector to solve
