permissions locked
I know this is the way it is with most Sprint phones, but is there any way to get 3rd-party software to work and be able to use say the file I/O?

Actually, I found a way to get around this.
Been using it for a while.

Looks like this is a long way away from happening, just going to have to switch to a newer phone at some point.
