Black Screen on Startup of MacBook Air Model A1466

First off, I am in South Africa, there are no Apple Stores around here to help me with this problem.

I spilt water on the keyboard quite a while back but the laptop still works fine with the exclusion of the power button which only seems to work when turning on the Mac (only if the power cable is not connected) otherwise when the Mac is on the power button has no function so you cannot turn off the laptop by pressing the power button.

My current problem is that I logged out of one of my accounts and got to a black screen, holding down the power button to switch the laptop off did not work as the button is faulty so I had to wait for the battery to drain. I then charged the battery for a little while and removed the power cable and pressed the power button to boot up but it keeps returning to the black screen every-time.

I have tried command+R as well as Command+Cntrl+P+R etc none of which have any effect. Would opening the Mac air and disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it perhaps reset the laptop and solve the problem? It is out of warranty.

Can you give us the last four digits of your serial number so we can identify which version of air you have.

Hi Dan, the last four digits are DRVC. Thanks

Sadly I think you have a to start by repairing the power switch. In the process you might find some other damage or corrosion on the logic board its self that will need to be cleaned.

The power button is part of the keyboard unit which in turn is part of the upper case. Here's the IFIXIT guide to replace the upper case: MacBook Air 13" Mid 2012 Upper Case Replacement. As you can see its quite a bit of work! Are you up to doing this? Here's the part you'll need: Upper Case Assembly. IT's not really a serviceable part. While you might be able to remove the keyboard (100+ rivets) there are no parts available within it.

Thanks for all the advice, I reckon I will probably just make it worse if I tried to fiddle so will have to take it into a PC repair shop around here to have it repaired depending on if the cost is going to be reasonable.
