Bulb startup continuously resets, TV wont stay on

I have a Samsung HL56A650C1FXZA DLP tv. It is about 7 years old. Two days ago, it wouldnt get past the bulb LED light cycle. It began to endlessly cycle the bulb startup process. I purchased and installed a new bulb, which worked for about 30 seconds, started up, had a picture, then began resetting endlessly again. I had a picture, so I know the color wheel is working. The door switch is working, as the LED lights up correctly when I had the cover off. At this point, I am guesing it is the ballast, as thats the only part left thats replaceable for the power process. I hear the ballast power up, I see the bulb light up, I'll get picture for a moment, then it goes i to endless reset. Please help.

My television is doing the same thing. It starts up, the bulb lights up, the picture comes on briefly, then it clicks goes black and the red standby light comes on and then it cycles through again. The only way to get it to stop is to unplug it.

I checked the capacitors and they are fine. I believe I have the issue narrowed down to the light ballast.

Did this fix your tv. Ours did this some about 1 1/2 years ago and bulb was going out because the picture was very dark. We replaced the bulb and it's been working fine. I turned it off last night and today it comes on for about a minuet then cuts off.

Mine is doing a similar thing. If I hold the power cable up it comes back on. Changed power lead thinking it may be that, but again it switches on and off by itself. ??

Most likely cause for this are some bad capacitors on the power source section of your circuit boards. Look for these:

If the top is not flat anymore, but has a rounded shape, they will need replacement. The ones you replace them with may have the same values as the original, or higher. The only problem with higher value resistors is, that they might not fit in there physically.

Your referring to the main board on the left side correct?

One must be careful about increasing the capacitance; an example:

If it is smoothing capacitor (and most are) then it will charge over a smaller time and so higher current. The problem is that heating goes like R^2, so overall one has now increased the heating.

Typo, when I wrote R^2, I meant I^2

If the light is still on but the screen is dark then ballast is good and the caps are the most likely culprit, use 105 degree caps low esr

Hello Steve,

I do believe that your TV is suffering from a bad DLP lamp.

The following website is one good place to start.

You could also look on YOUTUBE for some videos about this issue and see how to fix it yourself.

Good Luck!
