i bought a superslim PS3 which would read disks and I swapped the drive out of another superslim that I have, when you put hold the door sensor the disk will not spin but the red laser flashes 5 times, there is nothing from the blue one. The disk doesn't even attempt to spin. I don't really want to pay for another unit if I'm going to have the same problem. Can anybody suggest anything?

Double check your ribbon cable connections..They may be loose or not seated properly. Might want to clean the ends with a suitable cleaner before reinstalling the ends. If that checks out ok, I would say it was a bad drive motor.
Hope that helps and it's just a ribbon cable issue...

the Super slim does not have a board separate for the optical drive, all optical drive controls are part of the mainboard now, kinda like back n the PSone/ PStwo slim era...
so it could be a dead motor, bad connection or the controller on the main board is dead (worst case scenario)
so like some suggest check all flex ribbon conectors, and if you could get some DeoxIT put a little in th connectors and reseat them, if this fails try and get a new spindle motor (drive assembly) if not then the only possibility is get the mainboard fixed, which i highly doubt is possible or even economically feasible... then the other option is hax or get a new system

You are going to need the board off of the old disc tray because it is married to the motherboard of the PlayStation.

There are a number of reasons for a disc not to spin:
1) The loading of the disc is not complete - There is a small belt that controls the loading of the disc. If this belt slips, the loading process will not complete and the disc won't be read.
2) The laser is dirty or weak - In this case, you MAY hear the disc spin. If so, then the laser has detected the disc and is attempting to read TOC (table of contents) from the first track. If the read fails, the disc won't continue to spin. If the laser has completely failed, the disc won't spin because the system won't realize that there is a disc present.
The first thing to try is to open up the unit to gain access to the laser and GENTLY clean the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol.
Try that and update this with the results.

My PS3 super slim won't read or even spin the disk unless I hold the disk break away from it somebody please help

My disc cover had a round heating into fall on it for about 5 minutes. Now the cover is inverted and none of the zippers on the bottom line up

maybe the motor that is supposed to spin the disk has died or it's not getting power
