front loader drum detatched
my front load washing machine wont work. it started making a screetching sound and then stopped. when i opened it, it appears that the center drum is detatched,and there is what looks to be plastic all in the clothes,is it time for a new one or can i fix this

Tim, to make proper determination of what is going on with your tub, you would have to disassemble the cabinet. You should find some springs on the top of the drum and couple of shock absorbers on the bottom. There are also some concrete counter weights surrounding the tub. Take a look and see what you find

mine did the same. The hub, attached to the drum in 3 places, to the shaft broke in all 3 places. It would still turn the drum (in slow speed only), at high speed, unit stops because of a serious out of balance condition. The drum has to be replaced - not too big of a deal - just get he unit to an open area and start disassembling. The new drum, Amazon (Whirlpool) cost ~ $280. Still cheaper than a new unit of the same type.
Mine broke after doing a load of blankets and the out of balance sensor didn't stop the cycle to reposition soon enough.
Take heavy item to your local laundramat - their machines are better suited for this.
