Why does the display keep saying there is a lens error?

You will be unable to take any photos if have a lens error display from the camera.

If you are getting a lens error, it could be one of four things. There is dirt in the connection between the gears of the lens that needs to be cleaned out, the focusing motor is inoperable and needs to be replaced, the lens extension gears have been damaged and need to be repaired/or replaced, or the lens was previously obstructed from extending by an external source and needs to be cycled off and on. There are definitely more than four things for this error. Mine was caused by a broken ribbon cable inside the lens. It got worn down by lens movement.
