Shutter button will not click to take the picture?

I purchased a "new" (for me) refurbished Coolpix L20 because I LOVED my L18. I took it out, tried to use, but the shutter will not "click" and actually "snap" a picture. At first, I thought it MUST just be a simple adjustment that was different from my L18. I can find NOTHING else to try! HELP PLEASE
