problem in unlocking iPod nano 4th generation

hello, i have apple ipod nano 4th generation. i lost it somewhere in home. then i got it somewhere lying . it was locked. i dont remember the screen lock combination. at that time i was using my desktop which does not exist because im using a laptop now. my laptop doesnt recognises the ipod. what do i do?
