My Nintendo Wii Rock Band 2 Wireless Drum Set loses connection?

My rock band 2 wireless drum set (nintendo wii) looses connection in the middle of a song and I fail because of it. It will start out fine with the solid blue light but then begin blinking and will loose connection. I plugged it into my computer to use as a midi controller and it worked fine, no connection issues. I would really like to know if there is anything I can do because it was really expensive and I love playing! I am a second year engineering student so I have some electrical know how.

as you can read here: CLICK - it's a power issue, use a powered usb hub and the problem should be gone

I've been trying to fix this issue for a couple of years now

My 9 year old son and I want to know why tis is a power issue and why doesn't it work by directly plugging it into the the wii?
