I recently bricked my xbox trying to swap to a SSHD internal, I'd like to recover it if possible, i've already replaced it, so it will be more like a project. What i'm wondering, is if I buy a replacement HDD from iFixit, will it be plug and play? ubreakifix said it wouldn't work and that ALL the pieces are married to eachother, i don't think that's true. I also need to replace the RF Module Board. plug and play also?

So you want to experiment and have someone else pay for it if it fails. Where I come from, Texas, we call that pretty chickenshit. I do not work for ifixit, I'm just a volunteer here and will probably get docked 100 points for this answer. But it's the right answer.

smirking devil re-read what the poster is actually saying. He's been told that it won't work, wants to buy a part from iFixit and if it doesn't work or he destroys it, he will send it back.

I will be able to answer your question in about 3 days. My son's HDD failed and I ordered the last 1 TB in stock from the link provided in iFixit's Xbox One HDD replacement video. The page said the the drive was " used, OEM part" so I take that to mean the drive has the OEM software on it. If not then I will deal with it at that time.

I doubt that very seriously. The drive is most likely wiped clean.
If it's wiped; it's wiped. Not much I can do about that. I watched the 2nd video about formatting an HDD for Xbox but the catch is you need a working Xbox HDD to pull some files in addition to what you grab from the Internet. So Plan B is to check the consignment shops and Craiglist.

The 1 TB HDD arrived from iFixit on Friday. It was not completely wiped. There was no prior user created content but it did have the core Xbox applications and partitions. My son and I swapped the old HDD for the new HDD and the Xbox recognized it right away. It did require a 1.1 GB update which downloaded and installed without much hassle. It has been working fine ever since. I am very satisfied.
I swapped my COD Advance Warfare Xbox One 1TB HDD with a Samsung 1TB 850 Pro about 9 months ago. The trick was to somehow copy the files over correctly. Unfortunately, Microsoft might be preventing this type of swap now. I bought a refurbished Xbox One in September 2015 and could not make it work with a SSD. I think you need an older dashboard build to make it work, but I had already updated the software before trying to copy the files over.
