How do I remove the BIOS password?

Hello! I bought about 30 Toshiba Tecra M2s from a recycler, and while they are nice little machines, a few of them have BIOS passwords in place that prevent them from booting at all. They simply ask for a password when you power them on. BIOS password removal tools do not work because the password prompt appears before the machine even attempts to boot from CD, etc. I've tried removing the battery for 5 minutes, and several other forms of magic suggested by random pages when I Googled the issue. Nothing worked. Unfortunately I'm not very experienced with Toshibas and am therefore pretty clueless about this. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Hi, I don't know if you've seen this link but it looks like it may help you. Also it seems if you take them to a retailer with proof of purchase they will reset them for you. Good luck Ralph

Thanks Ralph! I saw that link, and it's good information, but unfortunately it's for really old laptops. M2s are old, but not quite that old. :-)

not all laptops remove the cmos will work thats very old 90s solution

the bios password is located on the main bios IC like eeeprom named winbond or MX in toshiba devices

you must remove it with hot air then flash the IC with a programmer with new bios file

is not easy as i see in the comments

Short circuit the system clock battery (preferably an old battery, not a fresh Lithium Battery to be shortcircuited ) fitted in the motherboard and then reboot your machin

Try removing the CMOS/BIOS battery or see if there is a jumper on your motherboard that will reset the password.

As far as I know about BIOS, there is 2 forms of BIOS passwords. The forms are desktop and laptop/notebook.

Desktop BIOS passwords are easy to bypass by moving the jumpers.

Laptop BIOS passwords are way more difficult to bypass as they are stored on the EEPROM chip which is soldered to the motherboard.

If you don't know the BIOS password, you need to either talk to the guy who previously owned them or put new motherboards in them to get past the BIOS password.
