5c date/time wrong and constantly searching for network

Hi - my 5c currently won't keep the correct date and time even though it says New York Time zone. I've tried the following:

1.) setting manually - can't select the current date/time - it keeps scrolling past 2016 and takes me back to odd years including 1970 and 2032. This wasn't always the case. A few weeks ago when I had this problem, I was able to set manually.

2.) restarting my phone

3.) resetting my the network settings

4.) putting airplane mode on/off.

Any ideas for how I can fix my phone myself?

As for phone history, I have replaced the screen a few times using both the Apple store and the company iGeeks. I regret buying the 5c because I have always had some sort of issue with it, but never did with my previous iphones. Would I be better off buying a new phone?

Try this: Make sure you are connected to wifi. Go to time and date settings. Turn 'Set time and date automatically' OFF then back ON. Then restart the phone by holding both the Sleep/Wake button and the home button at the same time.

This issue often happens when disconnecting the battery from the phone during a repair.

Update (01/11/2016)

Hi Amy, your next option could be to try and restore your iPhone. This will completely erase everything on it so remember to back-up up your data before proceeding with the restore.

Thank you so much for answering. I tried it and it didn't work.

Also, just tried connecting to wifi and got the message that it couldn't identify the secure server. It is my home internet and when I go to the settings, it tells me it is in fact connected to our home internet.

What could be causing this?

Ok, so I had my husband help me set the date/time manually and he came up with a good idea for being able to get to 2016 without the phone skipping ahead or backwards several years.

He would get to 2015, hit home button to get out of the setting, then go back in and scroll a little more, and repeat until he got to the correct time and date.

Then a restart like you suggested and now my phone is connecting to wifi and has the correct date/time.

Not sure how long it will last. Fingers crossed.

Thank you, craigad24 for your help!

I took my iphone 5c to the genius bar today for the same issue. The tech dept. said it is a known issue with iphone 5s, and that there is currently no solution. If they are able to make a patch, it will be included in an upcoming IOS update, but no promises. The genius bar rep advised buying a new phone.

I had a similar problem with my iPhone 5c. I wanted to restore it but I couldn't verify my Apple ID because the date and time was screwed up. Tried all resets etc but it wouldn't get the date right. When I read it might be a hardware issue, I tried a crazy solution I had with another 5c which surprisingly worked.

It involves heating up the iPhone with a hairdryer. See the thread below to see the answer to my first issue:

iPhone 5S Stuck in recovery mode : iTunes restore error 50

So I heated up the phone and tried adjust the date again. At first nothing. I tried toggling the automatic update a few times and then eventually it just keep spinning, not finding the right date but not finding the wrong one either. So while that was happening I went back to iTunes and tried the restore phone function again and this time it didn't ask for an Apple ID verification (actually it had previously asked me to sign out) but just went straight into the restore. I kept the hair dryer on during the whole process, some card holder taken out to assist, and it has restored perfectly. I'm waiting for a new SIM card to test it completely but so far so good.

I can't say why it worked but I thought I'd share in case it works for someone else. I had nothing to lose either way so I thought why not.
