My HTC One is showing a battery pic on the screen but will not power on. We have tried a new battery but it will still not power on. All we want to do is transfer off the data and then discard the phone but cant do this unless I can get it switched on. Any solutions ? It has been in to a repair shop and they have tried the above but no success. Thanks

Both appear for a short time when the charger is not connected and I am not holding the button. It appears that the phone holds a small charge to allow this.

Did the repair shop you took it to try anything else besides a different battery? Did they try using a bench top DC power supply to power on the phone without a battery? Does the phone have water damage or any other type of damage that you are aware of? Does the battery icon have an exclamation point inside it or any other symbol or is it just the battery icon? When does the battery icon appear on the screen? Is it only when connected to a charger? What color is the led charge indicator when the phone is connected to a charger?

Thanks. No other damage, no water ever near it. Not aware of anything, it just stopped working. The battery icon does have a lightening flash inside it and only when connected to a charger and if I hold down the on button. There is a small red light at the top that flashes when the on button is held..

So if I understand you correctly the battery icon and the red flashing led only appear when it's connected to a charger and you hold down the power button? Does either one appear if you do not hold down the power button when connected to a charger?
