It all depends on how badly the corrosion on the phone is. You can always use some isopropyl alcohol to remove the corrosion on the battery connectors and other parts that show sign of corrosion. This will usually do the trick for you and save you a lot of money. replacing the mother board might not always fix the phone because other components might have signs of corrosion.
