Replace ssd from new MacBook with ssd from old MacBook

Hallo,

I have an expired macbook. At this moment i am asking myself if it is possible to replace the ssd from a new macbook with the ssd of the expired macbook? If this is possible do i still have the data? I am looking forward to the answers.

Kind regards,

Sander

Probably not, technology marches on. To b sure place tell us exactly what you old machine is and why you think it died. Maybe we can perform a resurrection. If not we can tell you what you can put the old one in to retrieve your data if the stick is still viable.

The macbook is from july 2015. The macbook died because of a coffee spill. I am trying to retrieve the data now but the ssd is encrypted with filevault. I have a reader for the ssd but Filevault won't let me retrieve the data.

Open up Disk utility to unlock FileVault encrypted SSD using the password so you can copy off the SSD's content to a fresh drive. You'll need to leave the SSD in the system or use a special USB case made by OWC: OWC Envoy - USB 3.0 MacBook Air SSD Case and access to another drive to copy the contents to.
