I installed a new digitizer, front frame and button it works great except for the button doesnt respond at all. Does the buttons signal go through the ribbon cable or does it make contact with the board below?
The button worked fine before, the glass was just cracked. I am installing a new pre assembled button/frame/digitizer and now it doesn't work. Any tips?

no i think nick is wrong...the iphones touchscreen and homebutton work together through the ribbon cable but the itouch uses contacts for the home button

the ipod touch makes contact at the bottom and the iphone works just by connecting the ribbon cable

The home button signal gets passed via a tiny gold leaf spring just to the left of the data port. This is under the digitizer glass. It is a little gold piece that is held on with a screw. It is likely that the little "leaf/tab" is either fatigued to where it no longer springs up to make contact with the home button assembly or it has broken off altogether.

I am actually using an iphone, but couldn't find the iphone section on ifixit forums. I returned the part and I am waiting for a replacement. Ill update if i remember.

nick is wrong the frame has the button built in. not talking about the peice you push but the little black dot under neith. it should just make contact at the bottom of the ipod. i would just buy a new frame there like five bucks from gadgetfix (seller) on ebay. i have bought a lcd and the digitizer slash frame combo.

Yes i am buying the pieces as one already assembled. But I needed to know how the home button signal gets to the iphone, trying to figure out if the ribbon cable is bad or some contact on the ipod circuit board got broken.

It looks like there is a gold panel on the button and a gold spring on the ipod board that are made to hit each other, are you sure it goes through the ribbon?
