Video problem - installing shim
Newbie here. What instructions do I need to follow to try and install a shim before I get new logic board?

It's not hard
you just dismantle until you get the bottom off.... then shim over the Square you'll see pressed in the foil opposite the optical drive. You can affix the shim to either the foil or the case.
In my experience sometimes flame works when/if shimming fails... all these "work arounds" are temporary life prolonging "fixes".
only reflowing or replacing the VGC is a long term fix... but due to the cost it's becoming less and less cost effective.
