Fuzzy composite out/ inconsistent component out (not the cables).

In the last month, my PS2 Slim has begun having fuzzy horizontal lines across the screen while using composite out. Assuming this was a problem with the cables, I bought a new universal component cable (Works on Wii, 360, PS3, PS2 and has both composite and component outputs) . After making the necessary settings changes on the PS2, I tried the new cable to no avail. Here is what I have tried in my troubleshooting and the results:

-Even using the new composite cable, I get the fuzzy lines.

-Tried different input on TV, still get fuzzy lines (Original cable was probably fine after all).

-Set up the new cable using the component outputs. Sound works fine (through red and white outputs from composite), but the image flickers on and off every second or so, with significant distortion.

-Again, tried a different component input on TV, same result.

-Tried new component cable on Wii, worked flawlessly for both TV inputs.

Conclusion: This is something wrong with the PS2 itself. My question is whether or not this is something that can be fixed. And if so, how?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if there are any details I left out.
