Late 2015 iMac 27 Retina 5k
I have two iMac 27's. One has an an Intel Core i7 processor.
The other one has an Intel Core i5 processor.
The speed difference is noticeable, so I'd like to upgrade the i5 to an i7 processor. Can someone please give me the i7 processor model number?
Can it be swapped plug & play, with no other concerns?

Hi!
I have just upload a video in Youtube for the imac 27" Late 2015 CPU Update.
I try both i7-7700K and the i7-6700K.
I have desassembly ans asasseble the iMac 7 times! :)
The i7-7700K will NOT WORK!!!
The i7-6700K WORKS Fine!!! Very smooth...
Operation Temps: 40-55 idle, and 85-99 (Rendering).
Very happy for updating the CPU ( I had the i5-5600 3.2Ghz)

Hey i have the same problem i also buy i7 7700k and it doesn't work with my late 2015 27 iMac. and i also deassembly and assemble it 8 times as well :D
So now i need to buy 6700 or 6700 k ?
I used the i7-6700K, and it works fine! the i7-7700k will NOT work....
I also have the same imac, and I plan to migrate from core i5 to i7. Thanks for the help!

I am wondering if someone has tried upgrading this model to 7700k (kaby lake). Since the socket connection is the same. I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work (apart from EFI or some other safety checks).
Its more than the socket its also the PCH needs to support it and the systems firmware as you noted needs to handle it.
I'm not sure if given the amount of work and the risks in replacing the chip are worth it given the slight speed bump you would get.

Not for macOS
No as Dan said.
But in my opinion if you have other problems on the macOS is good after some years to make a new "clean" installtion. :)
When do you have to reinstall for Windows?
Guys, have you ever tried to put the CPU from the 2017 in the 2015? It is the same socket! Could probably have the support because the 2017 iMac already use it! Any comments?

Emanuel, George Siorios tried putting an i7 7700K and it does not work. It will work only with 6th gen CPUs. The i7 6700K being the best you can put on it, for the Late 2015 models.
