1 Should the motherboard be replaced?
Been experiencing a problem with my clients laptop.
So when they told me what was wrong with it (overheating), I immediately thought it was the fan. I ordered a new fan and put it in. Inspected the heat sink, no problems. Turned it on and it was working fine. Sent it back and I figured good day. Next day, they call me and tell me the warning is popping back up and it shuts down again. I inspect it again, and I figured there wasn't enough thermal paste on it. Applied thermal paste, and it works again. I Keep it with me and have it on, just in case any problems arise. A full day happens and no warnings, no nothing, so I shut it down. I turn it on today, and not only is the warning popping back up and shutting down, but now the mousepad is not working.
I've been trying to avoid this, but is it now time to replace the motherboard? I've tried everything from upgrading the BIOS Launcher (was already upgraded), using an external fan, the interior shows no dirt or dust (she hasn't used it in a year), and there was no "value added package" others keep telling me about. I feel the need to mention that the whole warning thing started popping up after she picked it up from Best Buy for a whole other problem.

@djmeadows1 , DJ, Did the customer tell you what the other problem was that Best Buy supposedly fixed? Could it be linked to present issue?

@lpfaff1 they said it was to fix the screen to the laptop because it was broken. It's a touchscreen, too.

@djmeadows1, what thermal paste are you using? How much did you put on? Also, did you check the head sync and thermal paste for the graphics chip?

@avanteguarde I didn't put a lot on there, but I'm using the Thermaltake TG-7 brand. There's a pretty good amount on the graphics card as well.

@djmeadows1, just to confirm, for a CPU size, you don't want to apply more than a grain of rice. The idea is simply to fill in the microscopic holes between heat sync and CPU to optimize heat transfer. The thinner the layer the better. Also, before application, it is good to clean both surfaces with isopropyl alcohol to remove any oily residue or previous paste.
