Hi, I drop my iPhone 4S in a very small pool of water and the next day I began noticing I have to push the home button really hard for it to get working. Other than that, charging the phone and everything else is still working fine.
Is this a sign of water damage? Do I have to replace the home button flex or anything else?

hey there! many components can be the cause, but likely, as stated by @benjamen50, This is most commonly a home button flex failing.
The components, in likelyhood are.
1) Home button flex ribbon. (The component with the symptom)
2) Charge port flex. (The home button is processed to the board through this component.)
3) Corrosion. (mineral build up from the water. scrub with isopropyl 99%, and a toothbrush to fix)
4) Mainboar failure. (if the above doesnt fix it, then you have to be prepared to replace the device.)

So I opened the phone and cleaned the metal contact on the home button flex as well as the home button itself. After re-seating the home button flex, I was surprised to see the home button working again! Couldn't find any evidence signs of water damage so it's all good now :)

Home button flex most likely needs to be replaced and the phone cleaned of corriosion using isopropyl alcohol 99% to displace the liquid and remove corrosion.

Thanks, does that mean cleaning the logic board or the dock area?
had the same problem, home button stopped functioning, checked the connection, found corrosion, cleaned it, and it works great now.
