not using all available RAM

I have only noticed this now, but my rig acknowledges my present 10GBs of RAM (three sticks, two 4GB, one 2GB). but says only 3.96GB is usable, which would explain why gaming is a nightmare. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Lets start with the obvious , the sabertooth is a dual channel ramset so to use it properly there can only be 1, 2 or 4 sticks used . you need ram in the first slot or the first and third if using 2 sticks and all 4 slots if using more than 2 whatever you put in slot 2 wont work alone if your running 3 sticks . so Im going to guess if your only getting 3.9gb you have the first 2 slots with the 4gb in each and 2gb in the third . by doing this the second 4 is not working because its not dualed with anything and the 2gb is not working because its probably not compatible with the 4gb in the first slot. so the only stick thats working is whatever is in the first slot. which must be a 4gb stick .

Now are the sticks all matching as far as speed , timing ,latency and voltage . If not thats another problem

So I'm going to to assume the 4gb are the same if so put them in slot 1 and 3 and dont bother with the 2gb until you have another matching 2 to dual in slots 2 and 4

I have slots 1 and 3 occupied with the two 4GB sticks and slot 2 occupied with the 2GB stick. they are matching as well, at least I should hope so, I scrapped them from the same HP.

then slot 2 is useless but you should be getting around 7+ gb from the others Id pull them all and test each stick individually in slot 1 could be that one stick of 4 is not working

also check that you actually did get the system installed right . Some install disks do have 64 and 32 bit OS on the same disk and you may have accidentally installed 32bit. go to your system in the control panel and double check . it only takes a second and will eliminate frustrations if you did happen to have installed it

that was the first thing I checked, will individually check RAM now

I removed the 2GB dimm and it all works now

Did you install a 32-bit OS?
