Keyboard Not Working with Mouse!?

Hi, on certain program such as Audacity, the keyboard does not work while the mouse buttons are being used. For example, if I want to use the keyboad I will have to stop usoing the mouse. This is really ruining my speedy workflow. It works on my Windows 7 PC but not my new MSI Windows 10 laptop. How can I resolve this?
