iMac Suddenly went off and will not come back on- No LEDs visible-

Our IMAC was on when we went to bed last night but will not come on this morning. We even tried holding the button down in the back but it is non-responsive. Surge protector and power cord are working.

No LEDs light up- no diagnostics visible when opened.

Do you get any lights or sounds? Please look on the bottom of the stand and give us the EXACT machine you have.

So my Serial # is QP710043VUY - does this mean there is a different fix?

I would remove the back and plug it in an hit the two CUDA switchs with a pencil eraser (to the left of the diagnostic lights in the center of the logic board) to reset and restart the machine. Note the diagnostics LEDs and which one come on. Let us know please.

The machine is at home (I am in the office), I will need to follow up with response later. thank you!!

My first guess is that you have lost your power supply. A relatively simple repair.

I took the unit apart, except for the foiling which holds the monitor in place- did not see any LED lights when I plugged in and tried to turn on. do I need to pull the monitor out, as well?

Check the diagnostic LEDs on the logic board. Upon removing the access door and front bezel and peeling up the black EMI shield, there are three small LEDs above and to the right of the RAM slot.

The first indicates that the machine is receiving power at all.

The second (when pushing the power button) indicates whether or not the logic board is receiving power from the power supply.

The third indicates whether or not the display is communicating with the logic board.

Does the second LED light when the iMac is plugged in and the power button is pushed?

If you have a G5 iMac They have been really troubled by Capacitor issues in the Power Supply and two areas on the Mother Board. Both these could cause your issue. Here is an web site that talks about the issue: http://jimwarholic.com/2008/07/how-to-re...

If this doesn't apply to you please be sure to do as Mayer above requests and provide the info on what machine you are using. The image you supplied can be a G5 isight or and Intel iMac.
