wooo1082, Sound like a engine misfire. There are quite a few things that can cause your Mazda to run this way. Bad sensors TPS, MAP, MAF, IAC, O2, failing knock senor, faulty injectors, dirty throttle body, EGR valve, major vacuum leak, failing fuel pump, bad ignition, bad distributor, plugged catalytic converter, transmission fault, etc.etc.. As a first step have the car scanned for trouble codes even if engine light is not on(there still could be a error code) as it may identify the exact problem. Some of the auto parts suppliers offer free code reading like Pepboys, Nappa, Advanced auto parts, etc and some of the guys are very knowledgeable and may have seen the issue often and put you on the right track or see if one of your buddies have one to lend. Some times it does take a better quality scanner that can read live data, such as fuel trim/sensor operation/etc. and for this you may have to go to a good local auto repair shop. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

The car is going into limp mode . Usually a vacuum leak is the cause

Replace the bank of 4 solenoids on the engine near the firewall. Replace all vacuum hoses at the same time.

this is the item you need to replace as well as all of your vacuum hoses and connectors.

WOW, snap diagnosis, I think I would want to prove an item is bad before I spend real money to swap it out, that must be a cheap part or a super common problem that should be listed in every forum about this car.

What speed are you traveling, is this a constant speed, accell or decell, under what load, uphill, level, downhill, how bad is the jerking, do you think you may also have a really bad electrical connection loosing power to the entire car, what other items do you notice happening at the same time. Do you feel that the car is fully warmed up, does the problem happen sooner than, well you didn’t say a time frame of minimum driving before it starts to act up.

Lights flicker, fan stops blowing, speedometer drops, tachometer drops, any other diagnostic help you can offer. A vacuum leak to me is at a stop or very slow speeds, once moving at a good pace, vacuum leaks are not so prevelant, but large leaks while driving will not allow the car to idle as a stop. Losing ignition will cause your symptom and of course fuel delivery will not handle a heavy load, fast accel or high speeds, will starve for fuel.

Give more info please.

Mine had exactly the same problem, and I fixed it by the solution I posted above. Fixing all of the vacuum hoses did not work. It was not an electrical problem. It was not a vacuum problem it was this part that I posted above which is fairly pricey, and I replaced it myself but it was pretty much and all afternoon job. Very difficult to get to on the firewall side of the engine and buried under parts and hoses and wires. Very rewarding when it worked.
