What is happening is the 2nd part of the easy feed head is upside down. The black inside spinner is what I am speaking of, when you remove the cap with the spring on it. The inside spinner has a L on one side and flip it over, a R on the other side. The R is what goes into the head ( facing the sky when in motion) the L should be facing the ground when in motion, so long as this is done properly, load the head when sealed with 10 ft of line, and turn on the trimmer. It will hold the line and release when bumped. God bless !

You are correct! Turn that inner ring over and make sure it's facing the right way and all's well.

tarafından

Spot on! Was getting very frustrated that every time I bumped to advance it would suck the string inside the casing. Never would have guessed they assembled it backwards. Also, contrary to the instructions, you now have to wind new strong COUNTER clockwise.

tarafından

whether counter or clockwise, it depends of whether you are facing the part of the head that faces the ground or the part that faces the sky. If you face the L when winding, the direction is counter clockwise; the same direction from the opposite side is clockwise. I had to think about it, not being mechanical.

tarafından

NOPE! Made sure R was going into the head, and L facing the ground (or ME, when it was upside down and I was loading the line). Turned the Echo trimmer on and started trimming. Got about 1 minute into it, and GULP! It ate the ***### line again. There is the TRUTH about trimmers: You can buy a cheap Murray at Walmart, and it sucks. You can buy a more expensive Echo at Home Depot, and add the Speed Feed head for another $30 and it sucks. It doesn't matter. The manufacturers have colluded to make the products suck, so you just keep buying, and buying, and buying....

@weedeater, EMMA, The stringers head may not have the string wrapped properly onto it. Remove all the string and replace the nylon line with appropriate/compatible line and try. If this does not do the trick disassemble the string spool head and check for dirt/debri(clean head) check for damage, rethread and try. If still no go the head must be damaged/worn and will have to be replaced. If still under warranty, use warranty for repaired/replaced/refund. Below 1st link is a video to show how to restring head on Echo Speed Feed head, 2nd link is for generic type Echo head, 3rd link is Echo SRM-225 Trimmer manual. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Wouldn't you know - the head was simply installed upside down. Simple things first - right?

So which side is up, please.

tarafından

Look at the spool and match the arrows to the direction of rotation.

Update (08/08/2020)

Thanks for the help, I was having the same issue. Line would pull in when I bumped it. I had the internal piece in upside down. Turning it the right way up fixed my problem.

Mine was in correct the way you described it, but I flipped it to see what happened . Still pulls the line instead . Happens when I crank it

tarafından

This happens to me as well no matter what direction the inside piece is. Will someone please advise. Also doesn’t matter how much string I have out

I was having the same issue and due to this thread, I decided to have a better look at the spool. There are in fact arrows indicating the proper direction it should be installed. You want to match the arrows to the direction of the trimmers rotation. I can be directionally dyslexic so had to give some thought to the direction of rotation and then in a flash of lucidity, I realized that the line cutter on the guard gives you the direction.

Theres nothing wrong with the motor, its not running backwards.

Look at both sides of the spool. One side has a “R” and counterclockwise arrows. The other side has

an “L” and clockwise arrows. Put the “R” side into the shaft, so you will see the “L” side once installed.

Its that easy. Other brand weed eaters use the othe side. Its that simple, and easy to screw up when cleaning.

RIGHT IN - LEFT OUT

Hope this helps.
