What is this thing?
What is this little metal pad here? There's a IC on it on iFixit's teardown but not on mine. 2015-1-4. I get E101, E102.

There's nothing that's supposed to be there. If you look all over the motherboard there are pads similar to that. I'm not sure why but it seems there are different board configurations that they use. Different boards will have different empty pads and I'm not sure what the difference is.
Hope this helps.

Thanks. Okay, does a HDD replacement normally fix E102/E101? Also, I'm replacing the HDD with an SSHD to upgrade it to an elite. Problem is I can't read the USER file within the support partition, and it's messing up everything. I've tried many windows programs and Linux, nothing works. I'll have to delete it and put a new one on it. Do you have a USER file you could upload so I may use it?
Sorry, no I don't have that file.
OK. One last thing, I hope. Do I have to copy all the files from the old HDD to the new one? What do I need to copy? I've already got the partitions cloned.
E100, E101, E102 is normally something to do with software versions not matching from what I have found, You will need to replace the HDD with the software version currently on it, or an update-able version and boot to a thumbdrive to do the offline update.
That appears to be some kind of power regulator, deemed unnecessary and was cut from later productions.
It shouldn't cause console error.

@tronicsfix sorry to bother you again, but you're the only one with console XP.

@pccheese you forgot how to add images right to your question?? That way, they will always be connected to this question. Your link will have long gone extinct, but iFixit will still be going strong.

@oldturkey03 It's way easier to provide the link when using my phone.
