How to change Sony Vaio VGN-FW 11 inverter and LCD screen

The backlight on the LCD screen of my laptop does not comes on. The screen works, as I can see whats on it faintly when I turn a torch light on it. It also has no problems when I connect it to an external monitor. Having searched the internet, I found out that it could be a problem with the inverter or else of the LCD screen itself. Could you please tell me the step by step procedure for diassembling the laptop screen so as to install a new inverter or else a new LCD screen?

Here's where to download the service manual. I agree with you that the problem is the inverter not the screen. The torch (flashlight) trick confirms this.

I couldn't find the exact instructions for replacing it but they all have to be about the same. I'd look over this one for a Dell and the next one on an Apple to get a very good idea of how to do it:

Thank you for the promt reply. Sorry for being late in getting back to you. I however could not find the service manual for the FW series in the link you provided. I had already found this site and had checked on a quite a few others. They all seem to have manuals for most of the other sony vaio models but not for the FW series. Perhaps someone might find a link for it. I guess if the manual cannot be found, I'll have to chance it and open it without instructions.
